SOS Home Doctors was founded in Beirut, Lebanon, in 1984 by Dr. Riad Khalifeh, who continues to serve as the company’s Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The organization expanded to Amman, Jordan, in 2013.

Born out of resilience and compassion during one of Lebanon’s most turbulent eras, SOS Home Doctors was inspired by Dr. Khalifeh’s vision to bring accessible, high-quality healthcare to patients in the comfort and safety of their own homes. Drawing on his experience with SOS Doctors of France and a degree in Public Health, Dr. Khalifeh adapted this model to serve the urgent needs of his war-torn homeland.

Amid the chaos of the Lebanese Civil War, our dedicated team of volunteer doctors braved extreme dangers — including bombings, sniper fire, and widespread unrest — to deliver uninterrupted care. Their courage and commitment made it possible for SOS Home Doctors to operate day and night, answering every call for help without hesitation.

Beyond medical emergencies, SOS Home Doctors played a vital role in the community by providing aid during crises: treating the wounded in the streets, delivering essential drinking water, and assisting during fires and other disasters. Through these efforts, we forged vital partnerships with the Lebanese Red Cross, Civil Defense, Fire Department, and Internal Security Forces, establishing a robust emergency response network that continues to save lives.

Since the end of the civil war in 1990, SOS Home Doctors has grown steadily, broadening its services and deepening its impact across Lebanon. Our regional journey began in October 2013 with the opening of our branch in Amman, Jordan, reaffirming our commitment to provide compassionate, professional medical care — wherever and whenever it is needed.
